The Sacred Veil (Dallas)
Eric Whitacre's The Sacred Veil was written with his friend and poet Charles Anthony Silvestri, who lost his wife to cancer. This 12-movement work tells the story of life, love, and loss.
The Sacred Veil traces the journey of Tony Silvestri’s wife, Julie, from her diagnosis to eventual death from ovarian cancer. Using texts by Tony, Eric Whitacre, and Julie herself, the work wrestles with themes of life and death, grief and love.

“The Sacred Veil may be the single most important musical contribution in our time, perhaps in any time, to a non-religious, as well as non-political …understanding of death and loss…To experience it in performance …may be transformative for those whose grief, recent or deep-seated, has never completely found closure.” (People’s World.org)
